Why Honda?

At Honda we solve problems one dream at a time.

The courage to challenge convention

It’s true – Honda started out making motorcycles. We still do. And it all began with a passion to solve some of the world’s biggest engineering problems.

But there are all sorts of challenges out there, so why just stick to what you know? Our founder, Soichiro Honda, didn’t. And ever since that very first motorcycle was made, his curiosity snowballed; it’s found in every machine we build.

We only have one future, and it will be made of our dreams, if we have the courage to challenge convention."

An expedition of discovery

Our journey of engineering exploration has helped us in more ways than we ever could have imagined.

Back in 1980, when other snowthrowers had clunky, complicated controls, we wondered how we could do it better. It turned out we already had; the technology was in our lawnmowers all along. And so we carefully combined our Hydrostatic Transmission mechanism with our snowthrowers for silky smooth speed changes with a single lever – an innovation so useful, it’s still used today.

Living the dream

We don’t just make economical innovations for our customers – our own offices and factories use them as well.

The winters in Honda R&D in Hokkaido, Japan, get quite snowy. So instead of letting it all melt away, we made our very own snow-based air-conditioning system. We don’t just dream the ideas – we live them too.

Tough on snow, not nature

To us, creating the most exciting technology isn’t useful if it’s not efficient – it’s just not the Honda way. In fact, we work to build the most nature-friendly machines there are. We plan to be around for many years to come, and we strive to make the future the best it can possibly be.

That’s why we pioneered the 4-stroke engine – you’ll find them in every snowthrower we build. They have brilliant fuel economy as well as lower and cleaner emissions. Our ideas keep the snow from under your feet and firmly on the polar ice caps. That’s the joy of owning a Honda.
