Off Road Safety

Off road riding is tough on a motorcycle, so it's important to conduct both a pre- and post-ride inspection to keep your CRF in top operating and riding condition.

Tough and reliable and years of fun

Motocross is a physically demanding sport and can be tough on you too. It requires more than just a fine motorcycle. To do well, you must be in excellent physical condition. For the best results, work diligently on your physical conditioning and practice frequently.

Safety checks

Get to know your machine thoroughly by reading through the Owner's Manual for basic maintenance procedures that will extend the life of your Off Road machine.

Here are a few basic tips:

Tyres

Check for recommended air pressure (see your Owner’s Manual), and inspect for cuts, excessive wear or other damage.

Wheels

Check for broken or loose spokes and make sure axle nuts are tight, and check rims for deformation. Spin your wheels to see if they are true and check the bearings regularly.

Brakes and clutch

Check for smooth operation and proper adjustment/positioning of levers.

Gearshift lever

Be sure it's securely attached and positioned for safe, proper shifting.

Cables and controls

Make sure the throttle and all control cables operate smoothly.

Fuel

Make sure your tank is topped up before riding. Always turn your fuel tap to the OFF position before putting your machine away.

Oil

Always check after every ride or session. Make sure it’s filled to the recommended level. Also, check your Owner’s or Service Manual as to how often you should change your oil and oil filter.

Chain and chassis

Inspect your chain guide and chain rollers, along with your chain, for proper adjustment (too loose? too tight? just right?) and lubrication.
Also check for wear and any loose nuts or bolts in the frame, swingarm and suspension.

Suspension

Remove and clean your air filter after each ride, particularly if you’ve been in dusty or sandy conditions. Your Owner’s or Service Manual will have complete step-by-step instructions.

Junior Off Road

Learning to ride a motorcycle is not only an exciting time for the child but also a great moment for the parents too. However, it’s important to start them off on the right track and there are important safety issues you must all be aware of before you decide.

Be responsible

All parents need to consider their youngsters' age, size, ability and maturity before allowing them to ride.

Take the time to go through the pre-ride and post-ride safety checks with them (see Off Road safety above or consult the manual). An understanding of the machine is essential at an early age.

Always make sure they are wearing proper motorcycle boots, chest protector, body belt, elbow protection, eye protection and good quality gloves.

Your child must feel comfortable and able to move freely when dressed in protective equipment and clothing.

Never use a crash helmet that does not fit properly and always check the chinstrap before they ride onto the track.

A good check is, with the chinstrap fastened properly, to try and pull the helmet off from the back of the head to the front. If it tends to slide off your child’s head, then it’s too big.

Enjoy your riding, have fun and above all stay safe.
