Riding safely
Although you can't be completely protected out on the road, wearing the right gear can reduce your chances of harm – and minimise the risk of a serious injury.

Enjoy the ride, have fun and above all – stay safe
Of course it’s not possible to warn you about all the hazards associated with operating and riding a motorcycle. You must use your own good judgment most of the time.
Always wear an approved motorcycle helmet, eye protection, boots, gloves, long trousers and a proper jacket. It’s well worth looking for good quality motorcycle clothing. It will not only give you better protection in an accident, but it will give you good protection from the weather.
Here's some suggestions to help you choose:
Head protection
Be sure you and your passenger always wear a quality helmet that fits properly with good eye protection. An open-face helmet offers some protection but a full-face helmet offers more. Tinted visors are great during the daytime but at night visibility will be dramatically reduced.
Be visible
To make yourself more visible, wear bright reflective clothing, position yourself in the road so you are visible to other road users and signal well before turning or changing lanes. Use your horn when it will help others notice you.
A quick check is all you need
Closely inspect your motorcycle before every ride. You may have a slow puncture, low air pressure in your tyres can have a bad effect on handling (see Maintenance). Never exceed load limits, and if you are carrying anything, make sure it is securely fastened to your bike. Check that luggage isn’t covering lights or isn’t any where near the exhaust.
Consider your passenger
Always consider the safety of your passenger. Make sure they are wearing an approved motorcycle helmet, eye protection and high-visibility protective clothing. Ride defensively according to the weather and road conditions.
Don't drink then ride
You can’t ride if you drink alcohol. Even one drink can reduce your ability to respond to changing conditions, and your reaction time gets worse with every additional drink. So don't do it and don't let your friends do it either.
Stay safe, always
Never ride beyond your personal abilities or faster than conditions warrant. Remember that alcohol, drugs and fatigue can significantly reduce your ability to make good judgments and ride safety.
