Twin 310mm floating front discs are gripped hard by opposed four-piston calipers while a three-piston caliper works the rear 316mm vented disc. Backing up the heavy-duty braking is Honda's Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), giving extra control on slippery surfaces.

Impossible to ignore
The Gold Wing F6C’s low, mean and muscular form flows organically from the solid front quarter, exuding strength and purpose with every line and angle. Built around the massive twin-spar aluminium beam frame and evocative twin banks of cylinders it’s a style chiselled from wild imagination, taken to the very limit. This is a motorcycle like no other, with attitude to match.

Power to revel in
Once sampled the Gold Wing F6C’s 1,832cc horizontally-opposed SOHC 12-valve six-cylinder engine is never forgotten. It dials up an avalanche of turbine-smooth torque – 167Nm at just 4,000rpm – with power delivery that quickly becomes addictive. Fed by PGM-FI fuel injection pumping through twin Keihin throttle bodies, response is instant and acceleration swift when the lights change. The clutch has a lightweight feel at the lever and the five-speed gearbox, with fifth very much an overdrive for relaxed highway cruising, drives through a maintenance-free shaft.

Star performance
Containing that mighty motor is a solid chassis, ready for the show. Stripped to bare bones – the Gold Wing F6C shaves 70kg. The twin-spar aluminium frame is massively strong and reinforced by the engine as a stressed member. The 45mm telescopic forks and HMAS monoshock – with remote spring preload adjustment – feature special spring weights matching the reduced mass. Altogether the balanced chassis, supple suspension, low centre of gravity and wide, swept-back handlebars put the rider in complete control – and on the best seat in the house.
